The shorthand version: every ingredient we use is formulated to ECOCERT/COSMOS international standards for safety, sustainability, and biodegradability. Our ingredients also carry EWG's safest ratings, if that's a resource you use.
But those stamps are just the baseline. They don't capture the full nuance of our philosophy - a philosophy that refuses to rely on fear-mongering, greenwashing, or false binaries.
Because here's the truth:
As a twin mom with multiple chronic illnesses (my immune system is dramatic) and two boys with eczema-prone skin, my risk tolerance is low.
If research is mixed, I skip it. If an ingredient can't justify its place in the formula, it doesn't make the cut. Every ingredient in a Bright Body Baby formula goes through the same evaluation:
This process is complex because cosmetic science itself is complex.
Your baby's skin is more absorbent and more reactive than yours. That's a reason to be more rigorous, not to be fear-based.
Our ingredient standards are the same across Bright Body and Bright Body Baby - same formulator, same risk tolerance, same nuance.
Out of an abundance of caution, we formulate without: parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals (PEGs, PPGs), DEAs and TEAs, ethanol, propylene glycol/propanediol, phenoxyethanol, synthetic fragrance, and dyes.
But every other "clean" baby brand can say the same thing. What matters is the nuance on top of the obvious list - which is everything above.
You'll find peer-reviewed research citations on our product pages, because we'd rather show you the science than ask you to take our word for it.
ECOCERT/COSMOS is our formulation standard, but we include EWG ratings in our glossary because we know many parents use the Skin Deep Database. It can be inconsistent and leans towards fear-mongering, but we've included it as a footnote for those that find it helpful.

Corn-derived pH balancer. All soaps and cleaning agents are alkaline by nature, so citric acid is used to keep the pH as close to baby skin's natural pH (4.5 - 5.5).

While all of our products are available in unscented formulas, some are available in scents blended exclusively with whole essential oils in safe concentrations of 1% or less. By contrast, synthetic fragrance is the #1 allergen and disclosure of the contents of synthetic fragrance is not required. Our oils are responsibly sourced from reliable suppliers who use independent 3rd party lab tests to verify purity. We always recommend purchasing unscented for children under 6 months of age.Beyond that, we leave it up to parents to decide your comfort level.
