The shorthand version: every ingredient we use is formulated to ECOCERT/COSMOS international standards for safety, sustainability, and biodegradability. And every ingredient in every formula is in a functional concentration, which is surprisingly rare in this industry.
ECOCERT/COSMOS is the international gold standard for organic and natural cosmetics - covering ingredient safety, environmental impact, biodegradability, and manufacturing processes. It's stricter and more comprehensive than US-focused frameworks like EWG, which can be inconsistent and quite frankly too fear-based.
But that's just the baseline. They don’t capture the full nuance of our philosophy—a philosophy that refuses to rely on fearmongering, greenwashing, or false binaries.
Because here’s the truth:
At Bright Body, we take the guesswork (and the greenwash) off your plate - so you can trust that what you're putting on your body has been chosen with nuance, not marketing.
You'll notice we formulate without parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, PEGs, silicones, sulfates, DEAs + TEAs, ethanol + related alcohols, propylene glycol, phenoxyethanol, synthetic fragrance, and dyes. But every other "clean" brand can say the same thing. What matters is what comes after the obvious list - which is everything above.
You'll also noticed that we put peer-reviewed research citations on our product pages - because we'd rather show you the science than ask you to take our word for it.
And don't stop at choosing the right ingredients, we formulate with those ingredientsin active concentrations(something 98% of the industry doesn't do).
What’s considered “safe” depends on your personal risk tolerance. Mine is shaped by my life: I'm a mom with multiple chronic illnesses (my immune system is dramatic, to put it mildly) and two kids with eczema-prone skin.
For me, the risk of using a questionable ingredient almost never outweighs the benefit.
That’s why Bright Body formulas err on the side of caution. We don’t follow a simplistic “synthetic = bad” or “natural = good” checklist. Instead, we evaluate every ingredient—herbal and synthetic—the same way:
And by the way, our ingredient standards are the same across Bright Body and Bright Body Baby.
This process is complex because cosmetic science itself is complex. It’s not possible to run decades-long studies isolating the effects of single cosmetic ingredients. So when research is mixed or inconclusive, we take the cautious route.
