At Bright Body, we know that baby skin is soft, delicate, and sensitive. That's why we’ve created a line of nontoxic, refillable skincare products designed to keep your little one’s skin safe, hydrated, and happy, from day one. We also believe in simplicity, especially when it comes to baby care. A well-crafted skincare routine doesn’t need to be complicated, and you don’t need an arsenal of products to keep your baby’s skin healthy and protected.
In this post, we’re breaking down a baby skincare routine by age, using our safe, effective products for every stage of your baby’s development. Whether your little one is a newborn or celebrating their first birthday, we’ve got you covered with our best products, each designed for your baby’s unique skin needs.
When your baby is just a newborn, their skin is ultra-sensitive, and they need the gentlest care. During the first few months of life, babies don’t need much, so the goal is to focus on hydration and protection while avoiding unnecessary products.
1. Head To Toe Wash
At this early stage, your baby doesn’t need an extensive body care routine. A gentle, tear-free wash is all you need. Our Head To Toe Wash is specifically formulated for newborn skin. It’s unscented, gentle, and safe for your baby’s sensitive skin, from head to toe. You can bathe your baby every other day or just a couple of times a week, depending on your baby’s needs.
2. Everywhere Lotion
Hydration is key when it comes to caring for baby skin, which tends to lose moisture faster than adult skin. Our Everywhere Lotion is perfect for your baby’s sensitive skin. It’s a light, hydrating lotion that helps lock in moisture while keeping your little one’s skin soft and smooth. Apply it after bath time to keep your baby’s skin nourished. We recommend choosing the unscented option at this stage, as it’s the most gentle and safe for your newborn.
3. Booty Barrier Cream
Diaper rash is common for newborns, so having a reliable, gentle diaper cream on hand is important. Our Booty Barrier Cream (made with 14% non-nano zinc oxide) is a soothing, nourishing option that helps prevent and treat diaper rash. You can use this cream at every diaper change to protect your baby’s skin.
4. All-Purpose Wonder Balm and/or Buzzeline
For those extra sensitive spots that need a little extra care, our All-Purpose Wonder Balm or Buzzeline are great choices. These products are multi-purpose and can be used to soothe dry patches, chapped skin, or irritation. Buzzeline can also be used by mom as a nipple balm if you're adjusting to breastfeeding.
At this age, babies typically don’t have much hair, so you don’t need to worry about hair care just yet. Keep things simple, and opt for unscented products to avoid overwhelming your newborn’s delicate senses.
As your baby grows, so do their needs. By this stage, your baby might start to develop a little more hair and can handle daily baths and a more established routine. However, your skincare routine doesn’t need to be complicated—simple, gentle products are still the way to go.
1. Head To Toe Wash
You can still use the Head To Toe Wash to keep your baby’s skin clean and soft. By now, you can bathe your baby every day or every other day, depending on their needs. Since their skin is still quite sensitive, it’s important to continue using a gentle, unscented formula.
2. Everywhere Lotion
Hydration remains a priority, and our Everywhere Lotion is still your go-to product for daily moisturizing. It will keep your baby’s skin soft and smooth, preventing dryness and irritation. We recommend that you still opt for the unscented version at this stage.
3. Booty Barrier Cream
Diapering continues to be a big part of your baby’s daily routine. The Booty Barrier Cream will remain a key product in your routine. Use it as needed to protect your baby’s skin from irritation caused by diapers.
4. Conditioner and Detangling Mist
At this point, your baby might have grown a bit more hair, and you may notice it getting a little tangled. Introducing a conditioner can help make your baby’s hair soft and manageable. Our Conditioner is gentle and made for sensitive scalps and hair of all textures, while the Detangling Mist will make combing through baby’s hair easier. Use only as needed - no need to create a hair care routine if baby doesn't have much hair.
5. All-Purpose Wonder Balm or Buzzeline
For dry spots or irritated skin, continue using the All-Purpose Wonder Balm or Buzzeline. These are gentle and can be used to soothe any skin concerns, including dry patches, chapped lips, or other minor irritations. If you’re dealing with cradle cap or baby acne, be sure to check out our other blog posts for tips on how to address these concerns.
As with the newborn phase, keep your product choices unscented at this stage to minimize exposure to fragrances that might be too strong for your baby’s sensitive skin.
By the time your baby hits 6 months, their skin and hair needs may have changed a bit, and you may want to introduce some new products into the routine to meet these evolving needs.
1. Head To Toe Wash
Continue using the Head To Toe Wash for all-over cleansing. At this stage, your baby’s skin may be a bit more resilient, but gentle, nourishing products are still essential. You can bathe your baby every day or every other day, depending on activity level and your personal preference.
2. Everywhere Lotion
Hydration remains a priority, and the Everywhere Lotion will continue to provide that necessary moisture. If your baby’s skin is dry or irritated, you can apply this lotion after every bath. You can also choose between the unscented or essential oil-scented options at this stage, depending on your preferences and sensitivities.
3. Booty Barrier Cream
The Booty Barrier Cream will continue to be a must-have for diaper changes. This product provides a protective barrier and helps prevent diaper rash, which can be more common as your baby starts eating solid foods.
4. Conditioner and Detangling Mist
At this point, your baby may have enough hair to need both Conditioner and Detangling Mist. These products help make baby’s hair soft and tangle-free. The detangling mist is especially helpful if your little one has wavy, curly, or coily hair that's more prone to knots.
5. All-Purpose Wonder Balm or Buzzeline
For extra dry or irritated spots, continue to use the All-Purpose Wonder Balm or Buzzeline. These versatile products can soothe and protect delicate skin, from chapped lips to dry patches. The Wonder Balm is especially helpful with drool rash when baby is teething. You can also apply Buzzeline to baby’s lips if they’re feeling chapped or dry.
At this stage, you have more flexibility when it comes to scents. If your baby’s skin isn’t sensitive, you can start using our essential oil options. But if you’re unsure, always do a patch test to check for any reactions.
Once your baby hits the one-year mark, they are becoming a toddler, and their skincare needs have likely shifted. They’ll need a bit more variety in their routine, especially as their skin and hair continue to develop.
1. Head To Toe Wash
The Head To Toe Wash is still perfect for your baby at this stage. You can bathe your toddler every day or every other day.
2. Everywhere Lotion
Moisturizing is still crucial for your growing baby, and the Everywhere Lotion will keep their skin soft, nourished, and hydrated. You can continue using the unscented or essential oil-scented versions.
3. Booty Barrier Cream
Diaper changes are still a daily occurrence, and the Booty Barrier Cream continues to protect against diaper rash. Use it as needed to keep your baby’s skin safe from irritation.
4. Buzzeline for Chapped Lips, All Purpose Wonder Balm for drool rash
At this age, your toddler might be more prone to chapped lips, especially if they’re teething or spending time outdoors. Buzzeline is perfect for soothing and protecting their lips, and the All Purpose Wonder Balm can soothe drool rash.
5. Conditioner and Detangling Mist
As your toddler’s hair grows, you may need to use both Conditioner and Detangling Mist. These products will help make their hair soft and manageable, reducing tangles and making it easier to comb.
No matter your baby’s age, a simple skincare routine is key to keeping their delicate skin healthy and hydrated. With Bright Body’s range of products, you can create a skincare routine that works for you and your little one at every stage of development.
